Braddock Bay WMA is a Monroe County outdoor clue for spring and fall migration, with marsh, open water, grassland, and a long-running hawk count.

Braddock Bay is one of those Monroe County places where timing changes the whole visit. West of Rochester, the wildlife management area sits in a Lake Ontario shoreline complex of grasslands, marshes, and open water.
The big seasonal rhythm is migration. A hawk lookout has been conducted at Braddock Bay since 1975, and spring and fall can bring movement by raptors, waterfowl, and songbirds. The area rewards binoculars and patience more than a fast park loop.
There is practical stuff to remember, too. The WMA is free and open year-round, but visitors are asked to stay on designated trails to protect plant communities. Hunting, trapping, fishing, and wildlife watching all share the larger site, so the current DEC rules and notices are worth reading before you pick a day. In warm months, tick checks and bug protection belong in the same mental pocket as the binoculars.
For a first visit, think calm and observant. Watch the sky near the bay, scan the marsh edges, and give yourself permission to stand still for a while. Braddock Bay works best as a slow Monroe County outing, not a checklist stop.
