Cayuga County land-record searches can start online, but viewing documents and printing copies may involve fees.

For a Cayuga County deed, lien, judgment, or business-certificate question, start with the Cayuga County Clerk’s Recording Office. County materials list free online indexes for many land records, judgments, liens, business certificates, and court records.
Viewing a document or printing a copy may cost money. A filing sent by mail also needs the right fee. Before a closing or refinance, use the index to find the record. Then use the Forms and Fees page for copy, recording, payment, and return-envelope instructions.
Search with the names, document type, and approximate filing date. Write down the index or instrument number before ordering a copy. An index result helps you find a record, but it is not the same as a certified copy or legal reading of the document.
Compare the names, dates, and document type before assuming a result belongs to the right person or property. Similar names can lead to the wrong record. If the document will be used for a closing, court matter, or other formal purpose, ask whether an ordinary copy is enough or whether you need a certified copy. Keep the receipt and the exact record number with the copy.
