Suffolk Health handles many residential wastewater permits
For Suffolk homes not simply tying into sewer, the county Health Department wastewater route is often part of the build or renovation file.

A home project in much of Suffolk County may need a wastewater review before the town can move ahead. The county Health Department’s residential permit page covers new construction, additions, alterations, and replacement work.
Do not stop after checking the town building permit. Ask whether the lot has an on-site wastewater system, whether Health Services has an open or closed permit, and whether a new bedroom count or building footprint changes the review.
Settle that question before work begins or a repair budget is fixed, and keep the property address, parcel number, plans, deadline, and county form or permit number in the project file.
