Schoharie pistol permits start at the Sheriff office
Schoharie County pistol-permit applicants should start with the Sheriff office route, county residence, training proof, and application packet.

Start a Schoharie County pistol-permit file with the Sheriff’s Office. Do not start with a gun-counter rumor or half-remembered rule. The packet is online. The weekday counter is at 157 Steadman Way in Howes Cave.
The current Sheriff packet lists four early checks. The applicant must live in Schoharie County and be age 21 or older. The applicant must have no disqualifying criminal conviction and must show proof of a qualified firearms safety course. Gather those items before signatures, photos, notary steps, or appointments.
A missed certificate or old address can turn one trip into two. That is a long drive from Middleburgh, Richmondville, Sharon Springs, Cobleskill, or a smaller hill town.
Keep each receipt, form, class certificate, and office step together. Use the responsible office’s current answer for legal eligibility and current rules. An old packet is not enough.
