Schenectady County DMV has a middle lane between showing up cold and hunting for an appointment slot: the mail or drop box packet. It is still a real DMV transaction, so the packet has to be tight.
Appointments ask for your name, address, and email, and the confirmation should come with you. For mail and drop box work, residents of any county may process transactions, and automotive dealers may use the drop box too. Plan on 5 to 7 business days for processing, plus USPS mailing time.
The drop box can handle registration transactions, license renewals with the vision requirement handled, duplicate license, permit or non-driver ID work, duplicate registrations or titles, and plate surrenders. A registration packet should include a signed MV-82, ID proof, proof of ownership if needed, bill of sale, sales-tax form when needed, insurance proof, and payment.
Use this route when the paperwork is boring and complete. If there is a name change, upgrade, missing proof, or weird title story, bring the question to the counter instead of sealing a packet that may bounce back.
