Putnam Online Tax Payments Have Fee Math

Putnam County property-tax payers can use the online system, but eCheck and credit card fees should be checked against the bill amount.

A Putnam County tax bill can be viewed and paid online, but the payment method changes the final number. The county’s online property-tax system handles taxes due to the Commissioner of Finance by eCheck or credit card.

For smaller bills, the eCheck line is usually the cleaner number to understand. Putnam lists a $1.75 flat fee for tax payments up to $50,000, with higher ACH/eCheck tiers for larger payments. Credit cards work differently. The listed card fee is 2.55 percent of the total tax, with a $2 minimum.

The fee is not a county add-on kept by the Commissioner of Finance. Putnam notes that New York law requires the payment option fee to stay with the payment processing vendors that make the online transaction possible. Credit cards are also accepted in the Commissioner of Finance office at the same listed rates.

Delinquent tax liens get their own phone step. Putnam directs those questions to the Commissioner of Finance at 845-808-1080. Save the bill, parcel or account information, payment confirmation, fee amount, and the date paid together.
