Plattekill Short-Term Rentals Now Need Town and County Steps

Plattekill has a very current rules-and-licenses check for hosts. The town Building Department posted an April 8, 2026 notice saying the town enacted new laws regulating short-term rentals.

The notice says all short-term rentals must be registered and must obtain an operating permit from the Town of Plattekill. It also says operating without both a valid town permit and a tax certificate issued by Ulster County is illegal.

This is not a generic vacation-rental reminder. The notice’s amnesty period ended June 1, 2026. A host should not assume that old grace period still protects an active listing. The current town permit and county tax certificate are the records that matter now.

Treat the town operating permit and the Ulster County tax certificate as two separate records. The town also posts an annual short-term-rental application. Ask the Building Department for the current packet, then confirm the county certificate route. If either approval is missing, use that office’s current process before continuing the rental operation. Keep both approvals with the property’s listing and tax records. An existing online listing shows that a home was advertised; it does not show that either local requirement has been completed.
