Ontario DMV Has Walk-In Hours, But Some Transactions Have Cutoffs

Ontario County’s Motor Vehicles Bureau route is a reminder that “walk-in” does not mean every DMV task works at any hour.

The Canandaigua office accepts walk-ins, but office hours, testing windows, and transaction cutoffs still shape the day. Enforcement, Enhanced document, REAL ID document, and license-reciprocity transactions are not handled after 4 p.m. The Geneva drop box is narrower: registration renewals and plate surrenders, not a full counter visit.

Before leaving, sort the errand into one real category: permit test, CDL test, Class D or M test, REAL ID, Enhanced ID, enforcement issue, reciprocity, title, registration, plates, renewal, or drop-box task. Then check the county page for timing and location.
