DEC’s Labrador Hollow page is worth reading before a quick boardwalk or pond trip, because the rules change by activity and by zone. The page says boat launching is limited to the designated launch on the west side of Labrador Pond, motorized boats are prohibited, and camping and open fires are prohibited. It also says domestic animals must be under the owner’s control and off-road vehicle traffic is prohibited.
The hunting and trapping language is the detail many visitors could miss. DEC describes Zone 1 as including Labrador Pond, the boardwalk, Tinker Falls, and most trails, with hunting and trapping prohibited there. Zone 2 covers the remaining area and allows hunting and trapping. Fishing rules also differ by zone. For a resident planning a family walk, a paddler packing gear, an angler checking the pond, or a hunter checking access, the calm move is to read the DEC page and map before treating the whole area as one set of rules. A few minutes with the zone map can prevent the wrong assumption at the trailhead.
