Haverstraw Tax Timing Has Two Different Calendars
Haverstraw taxpayers should separate town and county tax timing from school tax timing, especially penalties and certified-check rules.

Haverstraw property-tax work has more than one calendar. The Receiver of Taxes page says town and county taxes are collected January 1 through January 31 without penalty, then with a 1 percent penalty in February and a 2 percent penalty in March.
It says after March 15 check payments must be bank or certified checks and must be in the office by close of business March 31, with no postmarks accepted. School taxes follow a different route: September 1 through September 30 without penalty, then October with a 5 percent fee, and after October 15 certified funds rules apply.
The assessor record explains the other half of the picture: assessed value is used to calculate town, county, and school taxes. Keep assessment questions and payment-deadline questions separate.
Put the bill type, tax year, due date, and property identifier at the top of your notes. The Receiver of Taxes owns the collection calendar; the assessor owns the value record. If a deadline is close, confirm the current year’s instructions before choosing a payment method, especially where the town requires certified funds or actual receipt by the office instead of relying on a postmark.
