A Dutchess assessment challenge should start with the property record, not just the tax bill. Dutchess County Real Property Tax Service has the county assessment data. New York State explains how to contest an assessment.
Open the property record and write down the parcel ID, town or city, assessed value, and exemptions. Mark the exact fact that seems wrong, then contact the local assessor and note the grievance date.
If the problem is a property detail or exemption entry, bring the correction or exemption papers to the assessor. If the record is accurate but the assessed value is still disputed, use comparable sales or other existing proof and follow the grievance calendar. Keep the record, notice, proof, assessor response, and grievance date together so the challenge follows the same parcel and roll.
