Campbell Building-Code Complaints Now Route Through Steuben County

Campbell’s code page says NYS Building and Fire Code work was turned over to Steuben County, with complaints required in writing.

Campbell building-code questions have a county turn in the road. After the May 2024 Town Board meeting, local law moved NYS Building and Fire Code work for Campbell to Steuben County. A resident with a building-code question is therefore not just looking for a town hall counter; the county code-enforcement doorway is part of the local route.

Complaints are also more formal than a phone call or a neighborly grumble. NYS Building Code complaints must be in writing and addressed to the Steuben County code enforcement officer. Permit costs and the fillable permit application run through Steuben County as well, with pickup and payment at county Public Works. Keep copies of anything you submit, especially if the issue may need follow-up.

Before a contractor, complaint, or repair plan gets too far along, write down the Campbell address, the work or violation involved, and whether the issue is NYS Building/Fire Code or a separate town matter. That small sorting step keeps the opening call from bouncing between Campbell and Steuben County desks, and it gives the right office enough detail to tell you what belongs in writing.
