Bronx Tax Preparers Must Show Your Rights

Bronx filers using a paid tax preparer should ask for the NYC Consumer Bill of Rights before discussing services.

Published June 23, 2026 · Last verified June 23, 2026

A Bronx tax-prep storefront can be convenient, but the early check is your rights. DCWP says paid tax preparers must give customers the Consumer Bill of Rights Regarding Tax Preparers before beginning any discussion about tax preparation services. The preparer must let the customer review it and answer questions. DCWP also says the bill of rights covers preparer identification, qualifications, fees, and added charges.

If the fee sounds unclear, a refund promise sounds too fast, or the preparer will not explain the form, pause and compare official NYC Free Tax Prep options before signing.

Keep the Consumer Bill of Rights with the preparer’s name, qualifications, fee quote, added charges, and any form you are asked to sign. If something does not match what you were told, pause before filing or paying.
